Musician and performer Vince Cheney will lead an instrument-making workshop, Saturday, July 20, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m., at Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas, Dance Room 2, 1000 Campus Road, in Helena.Presented by the Delta Cultural Center, the workshop is open to youth 13 years of age and above.

Though free of charge, registration is required.To register, or for more information call (870) 338-4350, or email [email protected]  Registration is open through Friday, July 19.

In the 1930s, homemade instruments ran the gamut from random found objects to those made by skilled craftsmen.In this workshop, however, participants will learn how to make those that were commonly made in the Arkansas Delta during that period. 

This engaging hands-on workshop will showcase the methods that folk musicians used to make their instruments.  At the end of the workshop participants will have their own finished instrument to take home. Join Vince Cheney as he reveals how these early musicians made instruments from a variety of materials.
